Hello There.
Hey there! I'm Andrew Delso, but you can just call me Andy. I'm extremely passionate about mobile application development, specializing in Android with a keen eye for design systems, accessibility and quality.
My journey into Android development began at M1, where I transitioned from a Staff Test Engineer to a Mobile Engineer II on the Android team, playing a pivotal role in projects like updating branding and building our savings account offering, as well as participating in various hackathon teams tackling everything from client support features to API-driven localization. The company experienced multiple waves of layoffs during my two years, including one that affected me.
After the M1 layoffs, I spent the most recent two years at Sprout Social, where I had previously worked for over five years as a Senior SDET. This time around as an Android Engineer, I worked on the following:
- The biggest project I was tasked with championing was updating our app to be WCAG 2.1 AA compliant for accessibility. This involved an app-wide audit of all screens, plus technical documentation and planning for the remediation work that followed.
- I also took ownership of our Android design system, which included building new components, reviewing component submissions, and encouraging folks to use defined components to promote code reuse for better maintainability. This included building our multi-feature component called Message Cells, as well as our own wrapper of Material 3 ListItems that had opinionated scoped slots which promoted using proper child elements.
- Outside that, I was responsible for implementing a playground in our dev settings that utilized the new Jetpack Navigation3 library in a way that showed other engineers what is possible, while providing a place to experiment. The plan was to begin migrating our multi-activity app to this in the coming months.
However, all good things must come to an end and I was recently laid off along with a large part of the company. I'm now on a journey of continued self-improvement (a general theme in my life), diving deeper into Kotlin Multiplatform and Jetpack Compose UI to sharpen my skills.
Right now, I'm in the process of publishing my first Compose/Kotlin Multiplatform app to both the Play Store and App Store. It is a board game companion app that is currently in closed testing. I've been enjoying engaging with the community and filtering through feedback as I get it ready for a wider release.

Beyond development, I used to be more of a content creator, sharing my insights and experiences on platforms like Dev.to and Mastodon. And yes, you also can catch me sometimes on Twitch.tv as ddaypunk, where I unwind with games like Spider-Man 2 or dive into captivating narratives like Baldur's Gate 3.
When I'm not coding or gaming, you'll find me strumming my guitar, sketching, or lost in the pages of a sci-fi novel. I also have a soft spot for miniature war-games and enjoy quality time with my family, whether it's building Lego masterpieces or capturing moments through photography.
